A second chance

So what now? With less than a month before Mexico's friendly against Argentina there is still no manager. Preposterous names have incured with "final negotiations" taking place for Bielsa and then afterwards for Sampaoli's services. Still yet all of those negotiations fell apart, with some speculating that Sampaoli simply used Mexico's interest to beef up his contract at Chile.

Football journalist have a huge influence in the federation's decisions and sure enough only a mere day after many journalist asked why not try LaVolpe, did the FEMEXFUT decide to pursue el "Bigoton's" services. There is also a strong sense that Manolo Lapuente could also be in the running to manage the team. Ricardo Lavolpe brings a strong tactical vision to the Mexico squad so it would be positive to have him on board. He also managed one of the best Mexico national teams in the last 20 years. Many, including myself ask what would have been of that team if Lavolpe would have continued after the 2006 World Cup.

A few things are certain, Potro Gutierrez (Olympic coach) will be Mexico's caretaker in case there is no manager found for the following matches. So the hunt continues for the toughest job in Mexican football.
