The refresh is here!
Adidas has released the latest version of the Mexico National Team jersey. And as most of us fans hoped for, the color is GREEN.....with the added bonus that its without lightening bolts! This is great news for the traditionalists as the shirt will have a classy Adidas look to it. Speaking about Adidas, they sure did make the right move in extending their partnership with the Mexico federation up until 2022. Keep in mind Adidas did this while the Mexico national team was struggling with qualifying to the World Cup. Back in 2014, it was seen as an all or nothing move by Adidas and even after having two versions of the shirt not being up to par they continued to make lots of sales of the jersey. It was the No. 1 selling Jersey behind Germany and Argentina who both advanced to the finals in the 2014 World Cup.
Now with this new version, in my humble opinion it will continue to pay off. Looking at this jersey, I can only imagine the number of sales and high price the item will hold.
As most of you are aware, the Mexican fans are loyal to la playera. If you've ever attended a Mexico game you know that fans will always update their attire with the latest shirt, regardless of the reputation.
The shirt is being released with a subtle theme of "¡Esta es la nuestra!", translating to This is ours! The Mexico national team will debut the new Adidas jersey as their official home kit on March 29th at El Stadio Azteca when they host Canada for the 2018 World Cup qualifier.
My initial thoughts are that this shirt has the opportunity and capability to last until Russia and it would be a great opportunity for us fans to have a shirt go through the various tournaments that Mexico will play in the next three years. It's one of those shirts that can go down in history as the one that took Mexico to winning the Copa American, back to back Olympics and at the very least, past the dreaded Round of 16 in the World Cup 2018.
