Hector Herrera

Hector Herrera stock will surely rise

If you rewind the clock 2 years back, you'll surely remember the great year the El Tri experienced in 2012.  It was also an excellent year for a lot of young Mexican players. Especially, for those young players that played in the following two tournaments in 2012:

• Toulon tournament (Tournoi Espoirs de Toulon) in France – under 21
• Summer Olympics in England – under 23

The handful of players that played in both tournaments were able to amalgamate two achievements onto their youthful resumes. In Toulon they took first place and in the Olympics they were able to bring home the gold medal. Both teams were lead by Luis Tena.  One of these players was Hector Herrera. At the time Herrera played as a midfielder for C.F. Pachuca in Liga MX and earned a nickname of ‘el zorrillo’. He was praised with having the ability to set up plays, put pressure on defenders, great passing as well as quickness to the ball. In Toulon, Hector Herrera was awarded Meilleu joueur, which is known as the most outstanding player in the tournament. Herrera started in the Olympic final and was a key contributor to putting pressure on Brazil and maintaining control in the midfield for Mexico.

In the summer of 2013, Herrera was signed by F.C Porto and was able to experience champions league play in the 2013/2014 Champions League.  Although he didn't have good games he was able to experience a tournament that many professional soccer players dream of playing in.  In 2014/2015 he will continue to have the ability to get into the starting XI and will be able to help Porto F.C qualify for Champions League play.  In the warm up friendlies showed very positive signs that he is evolving into a great midfielder and lets hope that his process continues to rise on the positive.  Its going to be interesting to see how he handles a World Cup and if he can show the world that he is top class, he will continue to accomplish great things.
