El Tri calls 10 European players for the November friendlies

The Mexican Football Federation unveiled the European players that will be called to play in the up and coming November friendlies. 10 were called and although a few names were expected as they have seats that are just about guaranteed, a few others were to my surprise. Below is a list of the players that were called:

Player – Club

  • Carlos Vela- La Real Sociedad de Fútbol S.A.D.
  • Giovani Dos Santos- Villarreal C.F. S.A.D
  • Jonathan Dos Santos- Villarreal C.F. S.A.D
  • Raúl JiménezAtlético de Madrid
  • Jesús Manuel Corona- F.C. Twente
  • Guillermo Ochoa- Málaga C.F.
  • Javier Hernández- Real Madrid C.F.
  • Héctor Herrera- FC Porto
  • Diego Reyes- FC Porto
  • Andrés Guardado- PSV Eindhoven

Here are some of my comments with the new, returning and other faces joining El Tri:

Diego Reyes

I didn’t think I would be seeing Diego Reyes on the list as he has very little minutes at FC Porto. I know Herrera likes Diego as he coached him in his days at America and with the aging defense on El Tri, Herrera is looking for youth in this area.

Jonathan Dos Santos

I’m excited to see Jonathan Dos Santos as knowing his dream has always been to play side-by-side with his brother Gio.  I believe that he will surely leave his heart out on the field and hope he makes a good impression with Herrera.  He brings the defensive midfield skills that are surely needed.

Carlos Vela

I’m concerned with seeing Carlos Vela as it can either be a really great situation for all, or it can end up being unnecessary media attention or worse cause friction with those that consider Vela as a good friend. Primarily those who are active members of El Tri. (Gio, Guardado, Moreno, Chicharito) I hope things work out and Vela once again commits to El Tri, or the Mexican Football Association lets him go and leaves him alone.

Jesus 'El Tecatito' Corona

Lastly, seeing Jesus ‘El Tecatito Corona is another plus as he brings youth, speed and and the ability to change the dynamics of an attacking game. I hope he also leaves a good impression for Herrera as I know he is working hard to maintain his form.

Games and Dates:

  • November 12th - Holanda vs. México, Amsterdam, Holanda
  • November 18th - Bielorrusia vs. México, Boriso, Bielorrusia
