Belarus vs Mexico International Friendly

Yesterday (November 15th) Mexico arrived at Belarus as they prepare for their next friendly match on Tuesday November 18th. As Miguel Herrera and company posts pictures on Twitter one thing is certain, it's going to be a cold atmosphere on game day.

Herrera, today, announced the starting players for this match:

Alfredo Talavera, Paúl Aguilar, Hugo Rodríguez, Julio César Domínguez , Luis Gerardo Venegas, Miguel Ángel Ponce, Jonathan Dos Santos, Jesús Manuel Corona, Poncho, Giovani Dos Santos and Raúl Jiménez

The first word that comes to mind is: experiment, however I can sense Miguel has a plan in place. I’m sure he wants to be able to test this group of players ability to play at a national level (especially the defense) in order to find out who will be apart of the varsity team in 2015. I say varsity because it will be the team that will be responsible for the most important tournament in 2015. (In a future post, I’ll speak about this.) At any case in the starting 11, I see a strong midfield and an offense that has the ability to score many goals.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Raúl or Gio find the back of the net early in the game and it would be the best case scenario. As it will be important for this group to take control early on as if it looks to be close then Miguel will have no other option than to start bringing on Guradado, Vela, Chicharito which would limit these players play time. (which would affect decisions on future call ups and those that will make the varsity team) I want to see Jonathan have more touches on the ball as in the few minutes he played against Holland he didn’t have many opportunities. Lastly, I hope Gio Dos Santos gets the captain's armband as he has the most caps and experience amongst the 11. He also deserves to have this responsibility as he has been nothing but loyal to El Tri.
